Overview

The LM2596S-ADJ/NOPB is a monolithic step-down switching regulator capable of driving up to a 3A load with excellent line and load regulation. Operating at a switching frequency of 150 kHz, this IC permits smaller sized filter components than what would be needed with lower frequency switching regulators. It operates from an input voltage between 4.5V and 40V and delivers an adjustable output voltage range from 1.23V to 37V.

Key Features and Technical Design

Housed in a surface-mount TO-263 (DDPAK) package, the LM2596 substantially reduces thermal management requirements due to its high efficiency compared to traditional linear regulators. Internal features include frequency compensation, a fixed-frequency oscillator, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and thermal shutdown protection to guard against over-temperature conditions. It significantly simplifies power circuit design by requiring only a minimum number of standard external components.
