Precision Particulate Matter Sensing

Take precise control of environmental monitoring with the PMS5003 digital particulate concentration sensor module. Designed to detect airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, this high-precision sensor provides real-time mass concentration outputs for PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 metrics. Packed in a compact metal-shielded enclosure, it comes complete with a custom 8-pin cable assembly and a standard 0.1 inch pitch breakout board for effortless integration with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, and Raspberry Pi.

Advanced Optical Mie Scattering Technology

The PMS5003 operates on the principle of laser scattering. An internal semiconductor laser source illuminates suspended particulate matter drawn into the optical chamber via an integrated micro-fan. As particles pass through the laser beam, light scatters at specific angles. High-sensitivity photodetectors capture these light intensity fluctuations over time. An onboard high-performance microprocessor processes the light scattering signals using mathematical models based on Mie scattering theory, yielding highly accurate counts and mass concentrations per unit volume.

Flexible Operating Modes and Communication

Communication is handled via a 3.3V TTL UART serial interface operating at a default baud rate of 9600 bps. The module features two primary reporting modes: active and passive. In active mode, the sensor continuously broadcasts measurement updates at dynamically calculated intervals between 200 ms and 800 ms depending on particle concentration changes. For power-sensitive applications, low-power sleep mode drops current draw below 200 uA, while active sampling operates under 100 mA.

Pin Configuration and Signal Definitions

The sensor connects using an 8-pin 1.25mm connector. Below is the functional pin assignment:
