Product Overview and
Precision Diagnostics
The UNI-T UT521
Digital Earth Tester is an advanced, microprocessor-controlled diagnostic
instrument engineered for accurate measurements of grounding resistance and
earth AC voltage across electrical power installations, lightning protection
systems, and industrial distribution networks. Utilizing high-precision
analog-to-digital conversion algorithms and dedicated signal processing, the
UT521 enables engineers, field technicians, and safety inspectors to verify
ground grid integrity, evaluate earth electrode performance, and enforce
compliance with NEC, IEEE, OSHA, and IEC earthing safety guidelines. The
instrument plays a vital role in preventing catastrophic equipment damage,
mitigating step and touch potential risks, and ensuring optimal operation of residual
current protective devices.

Advanced Dual-Method
Testing Architecture (2-Wire and 3-Wire)
Engineered for maximum
operational versatility in diverse field environments, the UT521 supports
high-accuracy 3-wire measurements using auxiliary earth spikes for formal
compliance audits and ground rod installation testing, as well as simplified
2-wire testing for rapid evaluations using existing secondary earthing paths.
The device features three selectable ground resistance measurement ranges: 0 to
20 ohms with an ultra-fine 0.01 ohm resolution, 0 to 200 ohms with 0.1 ohm
resolution, and 0 to 2000 ohms with 1 ohm resolution. Operating at a dedicated
test signal frequency of approximately 820Hz, the instrument effectively
attenuates ambient 50Hz and 60Hz power frequency noise and stray ground
currents to prevent measurement drift and ensure highly repeatable readings.
Integrated Earth AC
Voltage Measurement and Safety Warnings
In addition to
comprehensive earth resistance diagnostics, the UT521 measures stray earth AC
voltage up to 200V across a 50Hz/60Hz frequency bandwidth. This critical
feature alerts operators to hazardous potential gradients and unexpected ground
leakage currents before resistance measurements are executed, safeguarding both
the instrument circuitry and field technicians. The meter incorporates
real-time visual prompts, poor contact indicators, and over-range warnings on
screen to ensure measurement validity under high noise or excessive lead
resistance conditions.
Robust Ergonomics and
Safety Compliance
Built to endure
rigorous job-site demands, the UT521 features a rugged double-insulated
enclosure built to CAT III 600V safety specifications and IEC 61010-1
standards. The high-contrast 2000-count LCD screen measures 70.6mm by 34mm and
includes an integrated white backlight for clear visibility in dark underground
vaults, electrical closets, and night time maintenance operations. Integrated
diagnostic features include automatic lead resistance compensation, continuous
battery voltage monitoring with low-power warning icons, data hold
functionality, a 20-set internal memory log, and an automatic power-off
function designed to preserve battery life after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Comprehensive Field
Applications and Industrial Deployments
The UNI-T UT521
Digital Earth Tester is essential across power generation, telecommunications
infrastructure, industrial manufacturing facilities, and commercial
construction. Primary deployment scenarios include auditing cellular tower
grounding rings, verifying utility substation transformer earth mats,
validating structural lightning protection networks, testing solar photovoltaic
array grounding conductors, evaluating data center equipotential bonding
systems, and performing periodic preventative maintenance on medium-voltage
switchgear ground buses.
